A little flag stand will be on your table. When you need a waiter, you can raise the flag so that the waiter can easily see it. When you dont you can lower the flag.

This way its easy for the waiter to see that you require service. And it would be easy to gauge the level of service at a resturant by the amount of time your flag has been sitting up raised.
